U.S. Olympic badass Nastia Liukin is off to Mother Russia to cover the Winter Games in Sochi ... but despite reports of violent threats and suicide bombers, the 5'3" gymnast tells TMZ Sports she's NOT AFRAID.

Liukin -- who was actually born in Moscow before moving to the U.S. at 2-years-old -- is covering the games for NBC ... and will be spending more than a month in Putin country.

Before she took off Wednesday morning, the 2008 gold medalist told us, "Although there are no guarantees given the world we live in, I'm confident that the Russian government and NBC Olympics are doing everything they can to make the Games as safe as possible."

She adds, "NBC has nearly 1,000 people in Russia already and I'm told they are overwhelmed and comfortable with the unprecedented security that has been deployed."

Ex-Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best says the NFL should NEVER have allowed him to enter the 2010 Draft ... because he had a well-documented history of concussions in college that made it UNSAFE for him to compete as a pro.

Best -- who was forced to end his NFL career in 2012 after suffering multiple concussions -- is suing the league ... and in the docs, he says the NFL should have saved him from himself.

In the docs, Best points out that during his college career at UC Berkeley ... he suffered at least 2 concussions, one of which made national news.

In fact, Best says the famous hit he took against Oregon State in 2009 became a viral video sensation because the play was so ferocious, many people thought he was killed on impact.

Best went on to declare for the NFL Draft and was cleared by the league. He was selected by the Lions in the 1st Round ... and during his brief pro career, suffered at least 2 more concussions that eventually ended his career in 2013.

In his lawsuit, Best pins the blame for his compromised health on the league ... saying, "The [NFL] allowed Best to be drafted and play despite his history of brain injury.”

Best says because of the NFL's actions ... he suffered "permanent and severe injuries to his brain."

He's suing the NFL and others for unspecified damages -- but it's clear he wants a fortune.

It's better than any Doublemint commercial we've ever seen -- WWE's incredibly hot Bella Twins getting a stretch in Monday on an L.A. beach ... all while wearing teeny tiny bikinis.

Matt Hardy's wife Reby Sky is standing by her husband after a violent incident between the couple at a Virginia hotel ... and doesn't want to end the marriage ... sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ Sports.

We broke the story ... both Reby and her ex-WWE superstar husband were arrested on Jan. 1 for assault and battery after attacking each other inside their hotel room.

Now, sources tell us ... the whole fight started when Reby asked a seemingly intoxicated Matt if he had been drinking or using other substances that night.

FYI -- Matt has had substance abuse issues in the past ... and once completed a WWE-sponsored rehab program.

We're told Matt didn't take kindly to Reby's accusation and the situation escalated into a full blown fight.

After the incident, the two talked out their issues and decided they wanted to try to make their relationship work. They've made several public appearances together since the arrest ... and we're told they're both committed to their marriage.

The "no sex before a game" theory for athletes is TOTAL BS ... so says former NFL superstar Ottis Anderson -- who tells TMZ Sports, he wasn't exactly celibate back when he won Super Bowl MVP.

The St. Louis Cardinals all-time leading rusher was being herded around NYC today ... when we asked him if abstaining from sex before games actually gives you a noticeable testosterone boost.

Ottis -- who also played for the NY Giants -- tells us he thinks it's a complete myth that dumb people are buying into ... and encouraged athletes to bang away.

WWE superstar CM Punk is QUITTING the organization, TMZ Sports has learned ... and sources tell us it's all because he's PISSED over the way the company wants to use him at "WrestleMania."

Sources close to the situation tell TMZ Sports ... Punk was livid when he learned officials scripted Batista to win the Royal Rumble ... because he feels Batista isn't in great wrestling shape and shouldn't be featured in the title match at the upcoming WrestleMania (the biggest event of the year).

We're told Punk feels he earned the right to be in the main event at WrestleMania -- because he's been wrestling tirelessly over the past year from house shows to overseas events. Punk was angry when he found out he'd be wrestling Triple H at WrestleMania instead of squaring off in the title match.

Former WWE champion Matt Hardy was arrested at a motel in Virginia earlier this month ... after allegedly getting into a fight with his wrestler wife ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Just look at the mug shots of Hardy and 27-year-old Reby Sky -- both appear bloody and scratched up.

Hardy has multiple scratch marks all over his face and Sky -- real name Rebecca Hardy -- appears to be sporting a fat lip, black eye and several small cuts on her face.

Law enforcement tells TMZ Sports ... cops raced to the Hampton Inn in Emporia, VA on January 1st around 5:45 AM after someone at the hotel call 911.

During the 911 call, obtained by TMZ Sports, the hotel staffer told the operator ... "A guest just came down here and said somebody's beating the hell out of his wife a girl or something."

When cops arrived to the scene, both Matt and Sky were arrested for assault and battery. They were released on $3,500 bail.

Our sources tell us both Matt and Sky got restraining orders against each other.

Since the incident, both Matt and Reby have posted photos of each other -- and it appears they are still together and going strong.

Calvin Broadus might have to change his name to Snoop (Nittany) Lion ... 'cause the new head football coach at Penn State tells TMZ Sports that PSU is interested in recruiting Snoop's son.

We spoke to James Franklin in D.C. (he was in town to attend Obama's State of the Union Address) ... and asked if the university is considering making a push to go after Cordell Broadus ... one of the top high school wide receivers in the country.

"I've only been here 2 weeks," Franklin said ... "but if he's still available, yeah, we would."

Cordell is entering his senior year ... and reportedly has offers from some of the top programs in the country including LSU, Notre Dame and USC.
