Ex-NFL star Bill Romanowski says he honestly had no idea the term "boy" could be used as a racial slur -- and says he apologizes to Cam Newton from the bottom of his heart.

Romanowski joined the guys on the "TMZ Sports" show (airing Monday at 9 PM PT on FS1) -- and we asked him straight up about the tweet that many people condemned as racist.

The tweet in question -- Bill had tweeted to Cam Newton, "The world doesn't revolve around you, boy!"

Bill says he takes full responsibility for using the word -- and addresses Chad Johnson who had tweeted -- "Boy? You never watched Good Times Bill?"

Beyonce put the spotlight on the killing of Mario Woods ... and no one's more grateful than Mario's mother.

Adante Pointer, an attorney for the Woods' family, tells us Mario's mother, Gwen, loved Beyonce's halftime performance, especially the show of support for her late son.

We're told Gwen had no clue Bey was going to reference Mario. She's glad to know celebrities feel a connection to Mario, spreading the message to millions.

Beyonce's backup dancers held up a "Justice 4 Mario Woods" sign on the field ... the 26-year-old was shot and killed by San Francisco cops.

We're told Gwen would love to follow up with B ... if the singer's interested in speaking.

12:32 PM PT -- A rep for the D.A.'s office tells TMZ Sports they will NOT be filing a formal probation violation against Jones.

"This will be dealt with by a sanction at the probation level and we will not be filing a formal probation violation," a rep for the D.A.'s office tells us.

Translation -- looks like Jones is in the clear.

Jon Jones is not worried about his traffic citations in New Mexico -- even though he's on probation -- telling TMZ Sports he is a FULLY LICENSED driver ... and he's confident everything will be cleared up.

As we previously reported, the UFC superstar was pulled over in Albuquerque last week -- and cited for not having his driver's license on him, no proof of insurance and no registration.

It's a dicey situation since he's on probation and was specifically ordered to obey all laws -- and could face serious jail time if his probation is revoked.

But Jon's rep, Denise White, tells TMZ Sports ... Jon has a perfectly good explanation and expects the charges to be tossed out.

"Jon Jones was pulled over for a minor traffic infraction, he was cited for not having proof of insurance and license on him. He will appear in traffic court this week when it will most likely be dismissed since he is fully licensed and insured."

WWE superstar Daniel Bryan is officially DONE in the squared circle -- claiming he's retiring at 34 years old for medical reasons.

Bryan just issued a statement saying, "Due to medical reasons, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement. Tonight on Raw, I'll have a chance to elaborate. #gratitude."

Bryan has talked about his medical issues in the past -- telling "Busted Open" he had concussion issues.

He has also praised WWE for protecting him by making him seek treatment from a barrage of specialists and preventing him from getting in the ring until he was cleared by doctors.

Now, with this announcement ... it doesn't appear he'll ever get the clearance and that might be why he's hangin' it up for good.

Jon Jones could be in serious trouble ... because officials in New Mexico are investigating if the UFC superstar violated his probation last week -- and the consequences could be VERY serious.

Jones is currently serving 18 months probation stemming from his hit and run conviction back in September -- and he was ordered to not break any laws.

But Jones was pulled over in Albuquerque on January 31st and was cited for 3 violations -- driving without a registration, no driver's license and no proof of insurance.

We spoke with a rep for the Bernalillo District Attorney's Office who tells us officials are currently "examining the matter" to determine if Jones violated his probation.

Jones has a lot at stake -- it's specifically written in his plea agreement that "if defendant violates that probation, defendant may be incarcerated for the balance of the sentence."

Officials tell us so far, there has not been a formal report of violation of probation and Jones has NOT been taken into custody over the matter.

Matt Barnes posted this pic on Instagram moments after his nemesis Derek Fisher was fired by the Knicks.

So ... this is total shade, right?

Look, it coulda just been bad timing and Barnes just wanted to show off his swag (he is after all a very fashionable guy).

Then again, he hates Fisher's guts and the look on his face says -- "Take that, bitch."

Beyonce was fired up about social issues during the Super Bowl halftime show, but she was nothing but zen before and after ... because the house she rented is the picture of tranquility.

The estate is located in Los Altos Hills ... about 30 minutes from Levi's Stadium. The $50 million home sits on 12-acres ... self-sustaining with 5 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.

The neighbors got wise to the famous renter after a police motorcade with blacked-out SUV windows were traversing the area.

Beyonce posted a picture of herself inside the house to her social media accounts.

The rental -- which goes for $10k a night on Airbnb -- has a rooftop vegetable garden, an orchard and live chickens! Of course, it comes with an infinity pool, game room with a pool table and a fitness center.

LeSean McCoy isn't the only NFL player under investigation for allegedly attacking off-duty cops in Philly -- investigators say the other 3 men are also pro football players.

The Philadelphia PD issued a statement saying all of the suspects "are reported to be members of the National Football League."

Cops have not yet released the names of the suspects.

The Philly PD says the fight was over "the ownership of a bottle of champagne" -- with the suspects allegedly punching, kicking and stomping the victims multiple times.

The victims were hurt pretty badly -- cops say one man transported himself to the hospital where he was treated for a cut over his right eye, broken nose, broken ribs and a sprained thumb.

Another alleged victim says he needed 8 stitches to close a gash on his left eye and may have a skull fracture.

That Prius Super Bowl commercial rubbed cops the wrong way -- not because it made high speed chases look like good, clean fun ... but because it's a big fat lie!

Several law enforcement sources tell us the Prius spot was hysterically unrealistic. One source said, "Loved it, funny as hell ... like a Prius is going to outrun anything."

Other reviews included:
- "overdone"
- "silly"
- "you can't outrun a helicopter"

They've got a point. The new Prius 4 tops out around 105 mph, while a police cruiser can do at least 120 mph -- and their 0-60 times are a laughable 10.5 seconds compared to 6 flat.

Derek Fisher's out ... and now Dennis Rodman wants in!

Kim Jong-un's favorite NBA Hall of Famer has officially thrown his boa into the ring to be the next head coach of the NY Knicks -- and he's even posted a message directed at Phil Jackson.

"Hey @PhilJackson11 @nyknicks, I have a pretty decent resume on the court and I can coach; and I'm available. Call me. @nba."

Fisher was fired earlier Monday and Kurt Rambis was named interim head coach.

Worm wants a shot ... think Phil will give it to him?

NFL superstar LeSean McCoy reportedly assaulted 2 off-duty police officers in Philadelphia on Sunday -- and the cops were badly injured ... this according to multiple news outlets.

McCoy was at the Recess Lounge around 2:30 AM on Sunday when he got into the altercation ... so says WPVI.

FOX 29 in Philly says the officers involved suffered several serious injuries -- including a fractured skull, broken ribs and a broken nose.

According to the police report, the fight was all over champagne -- with the football player upset that the cops received their bubbly first.

McCoy has NOT been arrested -- but he and another man are at the center of a police investigation.

McCoy played for the Philadelphia Eagles in the past. He's currently a member of the Buffalo Bills.

We reached out to McCoy's agent Drew Rosenhaus -- but he declined to comment.

Beyonce made a stirring political statement during the Super Bowl halftime show, in what appears to be a tribute to the Black Panthers, a '60s group that advocated violence to correct racial injustice.

The singer was flanked by backup dancers who wore berets, similar to the berets worn by the group. They also raised their fists, symbolic of the Black Power movement.

At one point the dancers posed with a sign that read "Justice 4 Mario Woods," the man shot and killed by San Francisco cops.

The dancers on the field also formed an "X" on the field, which seemed symbolic of civil rights militant Malcolm X. Beyonce also had a strap on her chest in the form of an "X" -- but that looks like a homage to Michael Jackson's '93 Super Bowl show.

Tina Knowles posed with the dancers, fists raised high. It's not only a symbol of the Panthers, it's also a gesture used by Tommie Smith and John Carlos during the '68 Olympics.

Cam Newton wasn't dabbin' Sunday night ... but Wade Phillips sure as hell was -- and TMZ Sports has the footage!!!

The 68-year-old Broncos defensive coordinator hit up The Grand Nightclub for the Super Bowl celebration party ... and GOT SUPER TURNT UP!!!!

He dabbed. He spanked. He got all the way down with a fat chain around his neck!

It was awesome!
