So much for that 2 year extension ... the 4-9 Rams have fired head coach Jeff Fisher, announcing the decision via the team's Twitter account moments ago.

Patriots' star receiver Julian Edelman dropped the ball when it came to his brand new daughter's birth certificate.

TMZ Sports has obtained a copy of Lily's birth certificate which lists her full name -- Lily Rose Mary Edelman, and model Ella Rose's name is in the "Mother" box. The "Father" box is blank.

Seems weird since Julian already posted a proud papa shot -- and Ella always maintained he's the dad, even when he wasn't admitting it.

We did some checking and the explanation is simple. When the parents aren't married, they both have to be present when their names are put on the certificate. Julian was already on a flight back to Boston when it was submitted.

What does Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson have in common with UFC Star Ronda Rousey? They both eat their feelings in exactly the same way ... over a heaping plate of chicken wings!!!

We got Jackson out in NYC still basking in the post-Heisman glow and asked him the question everyone secretly wants to know ... after you win the Heisman, what do you chow on to celebrate?

That's when Lamar showed he had something in common with Rousey ... telling us he mowed down some chicken wings -- Ronda's celebratory meal of choice -- after he was handed the trophy.

It remains to be seen if Ronda will ever have a reason to eat wings again ... but if you've seen Lamar play, you know this kid is just starting to fill his trophy case.

Joe McKnight's ex-college and NFL teammates showed out in force to say a final goodbye to the former star running back at his funeral Monday morning in New Orleans.

Antonio Cromartie, Bart Scott, LenDale White, Willie Colon and D'Brickshaw Ferguson carried McKnight's casket during the emotional ceremony at New Home Ministries church.

Mark Sanchez -- who played with J.M. at USC and on the Jets -- was also in attendance.

McKnight was shot and killed on December 1 by 54-year-old Ronald Gasser ... but could not be buried sooner because of the coroner's investigation.

Lane Kiffin is the big man on campus once again ... 'cause the Alabama offensive coordinator has reportedly accepted the head football coaching gig at Florida Atlantic.

Kiffin -- who was rumored to be a candidate for pretty much every open job at Power 5 conference schools -- has accepted a 5 year deal to be the next coach for the Owls, according to FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman.

Cardell Hayes was found GUILTY of manslaughter in the killing of former Saints star Will Smith by a jury in New Orleans ... and could face up to 40 years in prison.

Smith was shot and killed by Hayes on April 9th after a road rage incident. His trial started Monday ... and went through the weekend. The jury started deliberating earlier this afternoon ... and just reached a verdict.

Hayes was found guilty of manslaughter ... and attempted manslaughter.

Saints coach Sean Payton ... as well as ex-Saint Deuce McAllister were present in court while the verdict was read.

The judge tentatively scheduled Hayes' sentencing for February 17th.

Former WWE superstar Shad Gaspard nailed a real-life takedown of an armed robber Saturday night at a Florida convenience store.

Coral Springs PD tells TMZ Sports ... they responded to a call around midnight for an attempted armed robbery at the store. According to police, the suspect appeared to be drunk, walked up to Shad and said, "Hey man, buy me a beer." When Shad said, "There's a better way to ask than that" ... police say the suspect whipped out his firearm.

The store clerk says Shad quickly shoved the suspect against the cooler door, grabbed the guy's gun and it fell to the ground.

Shad tells us he was trying to remove the gun's magazine when he saw an air canister compartment, and realized it was just a BB gun. The 6'7", nearly 300 lb. ex-wrestler took over at that point -- taking the dumbass to the ground and holding him until officers arrived.

Pro Wrestling Sheet also reported Shad's heroics, which were pretty bad ass ... especially considering he didn't know it was a BB gun. That makes no difference to cops, btw -- the suspect was booked for robbery with a weapon.

Right after Lamar Jackson won the Heisman Trophy it fell into the hands of Johnny Manziel, which can only mean one thing -- Lamar doesn't believe in jinxes.

Floyd Mayweather was gonna make $35,000 for 90 minutes of work at a Vegas nightclub ... but blew it off because he didn't feel like leaving Europe ... this according to a new lawsuit.

Mayweather's being sued by the SLS Hotel in Vegas -- which says they had a deal with Mayweather to host his 39th birthday party at their Foxtail Nightclub on February 20.

All Floyd had to do was show up ... host the party and do the red carpet -- and bam, easy $35,000.

The SLS says he even got half the money in advance.

Problem is ... Floyd allegedly bailed at the last minute so he could "stay in Europe for his birthday."

Obviously, the club was pissed ... and demanded the advance back, which Floyd has allegedly refused to fork over.

The SLS is suing for the money back -- plus additional damages.
