Mike Tirico gave the sports world a serious scare after suffering an allergic reaction during the Kentucky Derby earlier this month ... and now he's opening up to TMZ Sports about the terrifying incident!

We caught up with NBC's lead play-by-play man at LAX ... and while he was forced to miss out on "The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports" after suffering an allergic reaction to nuts, Tirico says he was "fine by that night, just bad timing."

Mike said, fortunately, that kind of reaction is rare, only happening "every several years."

Five months ago, Nicholas Turturro was PISSED Juan Soto left the Yankees for the crosstown rival Mets ... but with Soto's early struggles and the Bronx Bombers' strong start -- he tells TMZ Sports he's feeling much better about the situation now.

We caught up with the "NYPD Blue" star and a die-hard Yankees fan after his team won the first round of the Subway Series against the Metropolitans -- in fact, he was present when Cody Bellinger hit a grand slam over Soto's dome to put the game out of reach ... and he loved witnessing the moment due to what it symbolized.

"It was kind of fitting that it landed right over his head," Turturro said. "It was like, 'Hey man, take that.' We're the Yankees, we're loyal fans, and we loved him. We gave him our heart, and we just felt a little bit shunned because you went down the street to little brother."

Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley -- once considered the fastest human alive -- has pleaded not guilty to hitting his ex-girlfriend in the face earlier this month.

TMZ Sports has learned that Kerley's lawyer, Richard Cooper, notified the court in Broward County last week, indicating the 30-year-old Olympic silver medalist wanted to fight the misdemeanor battery charge in front of a jury of his peers.

Fred hasn't spoken much about the alleged incident, but he did release a statement shortly after his arrest, saying ... "While there was a physical altercation, my arrest was not due to any criminal act. Rather, it resulted from my decision to remain silent until my legal counsel was present."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were back out on the town Friday night ... rolling up to Harry’s restaurant in West Palm Beach for a late-night bite.
