Sydney Sweeney is taking a swing at this year's Oscar nominations with her transformative role in the boxing biopic, "Christy" ... and we've just gotten a taste of the new flick.

Check it out ... the trailer for the new drama, which covers the life of professional boxer Christy Martin, shows Sweeney heavier, sweatier, grittier and more unglamorous than we've ever seen her. All of which could be the perfect recipe for an Academy Award.

Remember, Sweeney went viral last year when she was first spotted sporting training sweats and a short brown bob ... notably beefing up to take on the physically taxing role.

The New York Yankees honored Charlie Kirk just before their game Wednesday ... remembering his life with a jumbotron message and a moment of silence.

The Yankee Stadium homage came just hours after Kirk was shot and killed while he was speaking with students and others on the Utah Valley University campus about political issues.

New York officials put up his picture on the team's centerfield scoreboard ... and added the words, "Remembering Charlie Kirk."

The school just announced the move ... explaining in a statement its tilt with UC Davis will not go forward "due to the active police situation" at the university.

The game "will not be made up," UVU officials announced.

Paul wrote on X ... "Charlie Kirk got shot for telling the truth. That is literally it. What a mentally sick time we are living through We need god more than ever."
